Back-packin' it!

We had planned to hike 40 Mile Canyon, so
the plan was to drive down the Hole in the Rock
road, camp for the night, then head out
the next morning. We found a great place
to set up the tents and got a great night's
sleep - it rained in the night which was really cool.
We woke up to this pretty rainbow.
And a dead battery. Great.
At girls camp the day before, I had two dead
battery mishaps (I won't go into it, but I'll
just say it involved my unlocked door, the DVD
player, and one of the young women).
So apparently the battery had just been drained
too much - twice. Luckily we found a family camping
nearby that agreed to jump start us. But since we
were heading into some very remote country,
we decided not to risk being stranded.
The hike we had planned on was off...
Instead, we had to back-track to Escalante
to get a new battery. Bummer.
On the way to get the new battery we
passed Dance Hall Rock. This is where the
pioneers would stop and have dances before
the hard work ahead.
Since we didn't have enough time to do the hike
we had planned, we decided to hike up the
Escalante River instead. Here we are just
getting started...
What a fun trail! We crossed the river many
times, and since it was so hot - it was
very refreshing!!
This was a cool natural bridge. Terry & I
thought we'd bring the kids back here
and hike up to the bridge sometime.
Stopping for lunch by the petroglyphs and
the dwelling off to the right.
Crossing the river again.
We set up camp by Sand Creek where there
was a spring with the best drinking water!
We dropped off our backpacks at camp
and explored the canyons - so
much cool stuff to see!
The river wound its way through some
beautiful canyons with lots of petroglyphs
and cool rocks. It was so much fun!
Where we set up camp.
At the end of the trail.
