Okay, so one of my very favorite things to do is
take a ROAD TRIP! Terry & I both had to go to
Lake Powell School for work (convenient, hu?)
We took off on a Sunday afternoon so we
could be there Monday morning, and still have
the whole day to drive home.

The desert flowers were just coming out.

We stopped to get a better look at this granary.
It's above the arch-looking formation under the
overhang. It's amazing that it's so inaccessible!
If I had to rely on my food storage skills back
then I would have starved to death. I'm too
afraid of heights!

One of our favorite overlooks on highway 12.
This is the view of the lake from our room.
So peaceful! We had a nice dinner and relaxed.
I started a new book: The Shack.

Here we are at the school Monday morning.

One of Terry's Prevention presentations
to some of the 36 students (total!)
about the danger of energy drinks. He met
with 4th - 12th grade. They have some really
fun kids & teachers, and they're so happy to have
visitors! Afterward, we ate lunch at the school,
then we headed out...
We usually go home over the Burr Trail. But
this time we decided to go another way.
It was a beautiful day with breathtaking scenery!

This is a remote view of Lake Powell
where the Dirty Devil flows into it.
It was so GREEN!

We also crossed the Colorado River.
It was so pretty with all the colors of
sandstone and the snow-covered
Henrie mountains in the background.

This was the view before we descended
down the Moki Dugway. You could see
FOREVER!!

The Moki Dugway is a steep maze of
switch-backs that take you down into
San Juan County. This road is quite an
experience.
We went through the town of Mexican Hat.
Ever wondered why they call it that?
This is Mexican Hat Rock, right at the town
entrance. Looks like you could push it right
over, doesn't it? But, it's bigger than it looks.

We crossed the San Juan River.
I've actually stayed at this little motel
along the river. Years ago I won
at trip to Monument Valley from a radio
contest that included several nights stays
at different motels in the area.

Next we went through Monument Valley.
We didn't have time to do a lot of
sight-seeing, but it's always fun to see!

What a fun trip!
We traveled through Kane, Garfield, Wayne,
San Juan, and Coconino Counties, and drove
all the way around Navajo Mountain.
Then we went through Kayenta, Page,
then back home to Kanab!
We had a GREAT time, but we're
always glad to get back home!
