Rebel Ride up Paria River

The road to one of our favorite places to go, Paria Canyon, was closed. We are against this road closure because that means the only way to see this beautiful area now, is on foot. Since we like to take our kids and Terry's parents with us on our outings, we will probably never be able to go there again. Terry's mom isn't able to hike because of health reasons, so spending a few days backpacking in isn't an option for her. Around 300-400 people showed up to voice their opposition to the road closure. Here we are at the start of the "Rebel Ride."

This monument tells the history of Paria Canyon. This road has been used for years by pioneers, and now that road is no more?!
A few of the other riders.
It was a BEAUTIFUL day - perfect weather! The river felt great when it splashed up on us when we rode through it.
We led our group, and a few others joined us as we stopped to tell about specific areas, take pictures, and tell stories about the area. Terry pointed out arches and other canyons.
Delaney & Mason had fun getting wet.
Kalin & Daxton took turns driving. They ended up soaked!
Grandma & Grandpa enjoyed getting out and kept the kids in line from the tail end.
Kalin & Daxton climbing on the rocks. The writing on the wall was written in 1878 with axel grease, by original settlers.
This is a cool split in the rock - big enough to fit through. Our kids love to climb all the way to the other side. I get a little claustrophobic, so I think I'll just take pictures...
At one of our stops Mason must've gotten a little too close to some cactus. We had to take his pants off to get all the cactus out. Poor kid - it was everywhere!
Old Paria townsite. It's so hot & dry there, I can't imagine living there! Those pioneers were tough.
We hope they will preserve our rights by keeping this ROAD OPEN for all to enjoy! There are plenty of other places without roads to explore, let us keep this one!

Why are they closing it? I actually talked about Paria and the pioneers in my talk in church yesterday. That is one of our very favorite places to go. Shame on them!
